Kids Books—Now We Call Them “Apps”

digital version & app

I don’t have an iPad. Yet. But my two-year-old is a whiz with his Sony V-Reader, so I imagine an iPad is in our future. Media Bistro has started a list of classic children’s books now available for the iPad and has asked readers to contribute their favorites. Also, they noted that Dr. Seuss’s Oh, the Thinks You Can Think is now available digitally. I’ll keep reading that one the old-fashioned way for now. There’s nothing quite like a preschooler walking around the house sing-songing, “Oh, the thinks you can think!” Do your kids read electronically?

My kids read electronically when I am not, meaning my Nook is the only ereader device that we currently own, but they all love my Nook so I imagine we will be owning more before long. It definitely loses some of the charm, particulalry with children's books and turning the pages. But even with my Nook I have satisfied a squirrely toddler by showing her my children's books that I have. I have a foot in both worlds in that I really do love my Nook , but will never completely give up being "old school" and reading an actual book. My kids however, I can see transitioning completely over to ereading.

As parents we do plant our feet in multiple worlds--which I actually find exciting rather than troubling.
